The core informations about the data representation is mostly a derivative from the web page “CHICKEN internals: data representation” by Peter Bex which is licensed under CC BY 3.0 (URL last verified May 14, 2019):

it was reformatted and edited from the original HTML; the section about the garbage collector was dropped. Some editing had the purpose of making it feel less like a weblog and more like software documentation.
